2024 Queensland Mining Awards Finalists Announced

Safety and Blasting in the spotlight

There’s just over a month to go until the 2024 Queensland Mining Awards, and a top-notch list of 26 finalists has been released following a record-breaking 70 entries.

As this year’s Awards mark a decade of spotlighting the best of Queensland’s resources industry, the peer-judging process of the Queensland Mining Awards again uncovered some hidden gems: the great stories that industry needs to tell of innovation, improvements and solutions to broad-ranging problems.

Winners of each of the 8 categories, plus the Queensland Mining Contractor of the Year, will be announced at the Gala Dinner, held in Mackay on Wednesday July 24 and sponsored by Bravus Mining and Resources.

The peer-judging panel combined returning judges and new insights to support the prestige of the Awards process:

  • Darren Oliver, Group Manager Procurement, Glencore
  • Dr Sharna Glover, Chief Executive Officer, Imvelo
  • Jason Economidis, Transition Director, Illawarra Metallurgical Coal and CEO-elect, GM3.
  • Luiz Sapucaia, General Manager Supply, Stanmore Resources
  • Andrea Rutley, Head of Technical and Analytics, Anglo American

Jodie Currie, Bowen Basin Mining Club Director, says this year’s record level of entries demonstrates the continued importance of the Awards program to highlight industry’s successes.

“It’s a privilege to be trusted to tell the stories of industry in this way – I never take for granted how exciting the Awards are for contractors, suppliers and miners at all levels. Each finalist is truly worthy of recognition.”

First-time judge Luiz Sapucaia of Stanmore Resources said the judging process was an eye-opener to industry innovations that deserve the spotlight.

“Judging the Awards was extremely rewarding in the recognition we are able to provide the full spectrum of the sector, from very small regionally-based vendors to big multinationals – innovation can be found anywhere!”

Finalists now have a countdown to the Gala Presentation Dinner on Wednesday 24 July in Mackay at the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition. Along with the announcement of winners, the evening will feature a keynote address from Adam Lancey, Asset President of BHP Mitsubishi Alliance, an industry address from Janette Hewson, Chief Executive of the Queensland Resources Council, and a closing address from the Hon. Madeleine King MP, Minister for Resources and Northern Australia.
