2022 Finalists Announced

QUEENSLAND MINING AWARDS FINALISTS: DIVERSITY, INNOVATION A HUGE FOCUS

With just over three weeks to go until the Queensland mining industry comes together for its biennial night of nights, the finalists of the 2022 Queensland Mining Awards have been revealed.

It’s the most diverse finalist line-up ever, with over 50 entries across 8 categories. Winners of each category and the Queensland Mining Contractor of the Year will be announced at the Gala Dinner, held in Mackay on Wednesday July 20 and sponsored by Wormald.

This year’s peer-judging panel pulled senior executives from across the sector, with expertise in management, procurement, digital innovation and operations:

  • Darren Oliver, Group Manager Procurement, Glencore
  • Dan Reynolds, Head of Transformation, Anglo American
  • Andrew Wilson, Head of Digital Teams, BHP
  • Dr Sharna Glover, Chief Executive Officer, Imvelo
  • Jason Economidis, Chief Operating Officer, South32

This year’s finalist cohort features an impressive range of innovative and collaborative projects, using technology, process improvements and engineered solutions to address some of the biggest challenges facing the resources industry.

Judge, keynote speaker and COO at South32, Jason Economidis, says that the next-level thinking employed by Queensland businesses to solve industry problems is of outstanding quality.

“As my first experience judging the Queensland Mining Awards, it has been a fascinating insight into the way that contractors and suppliers collaborate, operate and innovate. Congratulations to all finalists – the peer judging process is always one of robust discussion, and I’m pleased to say that every name announced today is thoroughly deserving of recognition by industry.”

Winners will be revealed at the QMA Gala Awards Dinner on Wednesday 20 September in Mackay, as the gala event of the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition. Ian Macfarlane of the Queensland Resources Council will give an industry address alongside Mr Economidis’ keynote address.

Tickets to the dinner are now over 90% sold, with only six tables remaining. There is no requirement to be a finalist or Bowen Basin Mining Club member to attend. Tickets are available until sold out.
